Curriculum

How our school is organised

The school hours are:      8.50am - 12.15pm and 1.15pm - 3.25pm

Cove Junior School is a non-denominational County Junior School catering for girls and boys from seven to eleven years of age and is maintained by the Education Department of Hampshire County Council.

What does the Curriculum offer?
We aim to provide a curriculum that is rich, broad and creative; where the key skills such as problem solving, thinking and working with others are fundamental to teaching and learning across the school.  At Cove we adopt a topic based approach to study, ensuring that key learning outcomes for each subject are addressed in a relevant context.

Through our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme, and the wider curriculum, we are committed to ensuring that the 5 Outcomes in Every Child Matters are met in full.We want all our children to become confident learners, who are able to work both collaboratively and independently.  We aim to provide children with a curriculum that encourages a range of learning opportunities and styles.  We recognise that children may learn best in different ways and this is reflected in our lesson planning, resources and development of the school environment.

The following links will give you more information on the subjects taught at Cove Junior School.

ASSESSMENT AND TARGET SETTING

Why do we assess our pupils?
We use a variety of assessment strategies, all designed to give us a clear picture of each child’s progress. Assessment results are then used to set both individual and whole school targets for improvement.  Regular assessment helps us to track each child’s progress, helping to ensure that they are achieving their potential.  It allows us to celebrate success as well as guiding children in the next steps of their learning.

How do we assess our pupils?
